Your first Disney Cruise is a big deal, and I want you to walk on board feeling ready instead of overwhelmed. Here are the tips I give my own clients before their first sailing.

Book your must-do dining and activities early

Once your cruise is paid in full, you get access to book dining times, Palo or Remy reservations, and things like the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Popular times and experiences fill up fast, so book the moment your window opens. This is one of the biggest things I handle for my clients so nothing gets missed.

Pack a carry-on with swimsuits

Your luggage will not reach your stateroom right away on embarkation day. Pack a small bag with swimsuits, sunscreen, and a change of clothes so your family can head straight to the pool while you wait for your room to be ready.

This app becomes your best friend onboard. It shows the daily schedule, lets you check dining times, chat with your group without wifi, and see wait times for activities. Get it set up before you leave home.

Do not skip the safety drill

It sounds obvious, but this is required and takes very little time. Get it done early so you are free to enjoy the rest of embarkation day.

Rotational dining means new restaurants, same servers

You will eat in three different themed restaurants throughout your cruise, but your serving team moves with you each night. By day two, they already know your kids' favorite drink and your allergies. It is one of my favorite small touches of the whole experience.

Character interactions are more spontaneous than at the parks

At Disneyland or Disney World, you typically wait in a line for a scheduled meet and greet. Onboard, characters often appear throughout the ship at unexpected times. Keep your camera ready and do not be afraid to just walk up.

Pirate Night is a can't miss

Every sailing includes a Pirate Night with a deck party and fireworks launched right off the ship. Costumes are optional but encouraged. Even just wearing the provided pirate handkerchief is enough to join the fun.

Pack a stateroom door decoration

Every door on the ship looks the same in a long hallway. A simple magnet set helps your family, especially little ones, spot your room right away. It is also just a fun tradition.

Bring a physical copy of important documents

Even though most things are digital now, I always recommend a printed copy of your reservation and any required travel documents, just in case.

You do not have to do it all

First time cruisers sometimes feel pressure to hit every activity and show. Some of the best moments happen when you just relax on your verandah or spend an afternoon at the pool. Give yourself permission to slow down.
