One of the first questions I get from clients planning a Disney Cruise is simple: which ship should we sail on? The truth is there is no single right answer. Every ship in the fleet has its own personality. Here is a full breakdown of each one, so you can start to get a feel for what might be the best fit for your family.
Disney Magic
Capacity: about 2,700 guests
First sailed: 1998
Class: Magic Class
Disney Magic was Disney's very first ship, and it still holds a special place in the fleet. It carries a classic, Art Nouveau elegance that feels different from any of the newer ships. Shows onboard include Disney's Believe, The Golden Mickeys, and An Encanto Celebration.
What sets it apart: its smaller size means a more intimate, relaxed atmosphere with fewer crowds. It is also the only ship in the fleet with the AquaDunk, a thrilling three story drop slide.
Disney Wonder

Class: Magic Class
Disney Wonder is the sister ship to the Magic, and it shares that same classic charm with a slightly lighter, ocean inspired feel throughout the ship. Shows onboard include Disney's Believe, Beauty and the Beast, and Frozen.
What sets it apart: Tiana's Place, a New Orleans inspired restaurant with a live jazz band, is one of the most beloved dining rooms in the entire fleet and it is exclusive to the Wonder.
Disney Dream
Capacity: about 4,000 guests
First sailed: 2011
Class: Dream Class
Disney Dream introduced a real jump in size and scale for the fleet. It is grand and glamorous, with sweeping staircases and classic Disney princess touches throughout. Shows onboard include Beauty and the Beast, Frozen: A Musical Spectacular, and Disney's Believe.
What sets it apart: the AquaDuck, the first ever water coaster at sea, circles the ship and is a hit with kids and adults alike. Interior staterooms also feature virtual portholes with a live view of the ocean and passing characters.
Disney Fantasy
Capacity: about 4,000 guests
First sailed: 2012
Class: Dream Class
Disney Fantasy is the sister ship to the Dream, with its own distinct personality built around Art Nouveau luxury and a slightly more adventurous feel. Shows onboard include Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Twice Charmed.
What sets it apart: it offers one of the most well rounded lineups of dining and entertainment in the fleet, and it also has the AquaDuck water coaster. This is one of the ships I recommend most often for families who want a great mix of everything.
Disney Wish
Capacity: about 4,000 guests
First sailed: 2022
Class: Wish Class
Disney Wish was the first new ship in a decade when it debuted, and it brought a noticeably more immersive style of storytelling to the fleet. Shows onboard include The Little Mermaid and Disney Seas the Adventure.
What sets it apart: it introduced the AquaMouse, the first Disney attraction at sea, along with theatrical dining experiences themed around Frozen and Marvel, and the Star Wars inspired Hyperspace Lounge.
Disney Treasure
Capacity: about 4,000 guests
First sailed: 2024
Class: Wish Class
Disney Treasure leans into adventure and exploration, with theming that nods to classic Disney park attractions, including the Haunted Mansion. Shows onboard include Disney's Seas the Adventure and The Tale of Moana.
What sets it apart: it is the newest ship built specifically for park fans, with theming that will feel familiar if you love Disneyland or Disney World attractions.
Disney Destiny
Capacity: about 4,000 guests
First sailed: 2025
Class: Wish Class
Disney Destiny is the newest Wish Class ship, built around a bold heroes and villains theme, including the fleet's first Marvel superhero spotlight character. Shows onboard include the Sing a Silly Song Show and Disney's Seas the Adventure.
What sets it apart: a Lion King themed dining experience called Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, plus a Haunted Mansion inspired lounge, both unique to this ship.
Disney Adventure
Capacity: about 6,000 guests
First sailed: 2026
Class: Global Class
Disney Adventure is by far the largest and boldest ship Disney has ever built, and it is a true departure from the rest of the fleet. It is divided into seven distinct themed lands, including a Moana inspired Wayfinder Bay and a Toy Story themed water play area.
What sets it apart: it is home to the longest rollercoaster ever built at sea, along with attractions and dining unlike anything else in the fleet. One important note, it homeports in Singapore and sails short trips through Southeast Asia, so it is a very different kind of booking than the rest of the fleet.
Disney Believe: coming in late 2027
Disney has already announced the next ship in the fleet, Disney Believe, a fourth Wish Class vessel themed around promise and possibility. It is expected to debut from Miami in late 2027. Details are still being revealed, but if you are the type who loves being among the first to sail a brand new ship, this one is worth keeping on your radar.
So, which ship is best?
Here is my honest answer. It depends on what you are looking for.
If you want a classic, more intimate feel with fewer crowds, Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are wonderful choices. My personal favorites in the fleet are these two Magic Class ships, and I sail them whenever I can.
I want to add something here from my own experience. I have sailed older ships on other cruise lines, and they often felt tired and in need of a real remodel. That is simply not the case with Disney's older ships. Everything on the Magic and the Wonder is impeccably kept up. These ships have such a classic feel to them, and honestly, they have the most charm of any ships in the fleet. Disney takes real pride in maintaining them, and it shows.
If you want a bigger ship with a well rounded mix of dining, entertainment, and family activities, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are excellent middle ground options.
If you want the newest, most immersive theming and attractions, Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny each bring something unique to the table.
And if you want the biggest, boldest Disney has ever built, and Southeast Asia fits your travel plans, Disney Adventure is unlike anything else in the fleet.
There is truly no wrong choice here. Every ship delivers that same unmistakable Disney magic, just with its own personality layered on top.
